The Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion

The new Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion merges thoughtfully designed spaces with state-of-the-art, sustainable green design to create a new, inviting main entry to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

With six of the Pavilion’s 11 stories devoted to parking, and elevators going directly to patient care floors, patients and visitors are assured easy, trouble-free access.

The Pavilion will house outpatient services for the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, neurosciences, and other clinical specialties; outpatient procedure suites; dedicated research space; and a Plaza level featuring a new, high-tech Educational Center; a café; a pharmacy; a blood lab, and imaging facilities. A pedestrian bridge will serve as an open and convenient gateway to the existing Medical Center.

With outpatient services and research labs under one roof, doctors and research scientists will gather easily; sharing insights and accelerating discoveries that will ultimately translate into personalized patient care. Patients will also benefit from the stress-free access to parking and outpatient services, and feel welcome in the open, light-filled Pavilion.

The HOK team—putting ideas to work

When it came to matching Cedars-Sinai’s vision and commitment to advanced healthcare delivery in an earth-friendly package, one architectural firm stood out. HOK has been a leader in design for over half a century and has defined the field of eco-smart architecture for nearly two decades.

HOK selected materials that are not only environmentally friendly and energy-saving, but that also allow for light and an enhanced sense of openness. Façades control the effect of sun and weather, save energy, and promote a comfortable environment inside the building, while lighting controls work with natural exterior light to allow artificial light as needed. The exterior enables recycling, as accumulated storm water is captured, filtered and reused for landscape irrigation.

The LEED strategy

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or LEED) is an internationally recognized certification awarded by the US Green Building Council for documentable green building. LEED points are awarded for specific environmental impact fields: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality. Additional points are available for innovative design and regional priority.

The Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion has been designed to exceed the LEED Certified Gold Level.
